I haven't written a post here since November of last year and a lot has happened! In December I had a mastectomy and February 1st I started chemotherapy as insurance to never get cancer again. It has been the hardest 6 months of my life!!! Fortunately, I am feeling so much better, so normal again. I am very grateful and happy and so glad to be back in the light!!!
I was actually able to sew a little through the "good" days of chemo. Anything I could do sewing-wise made me feel normal.
Here I am fusing t-shirts for a quilt. I didn't have the energy to stand up. Luckily the ironing board adjusted to seat level:
I made a little pocket pillow and matching mug rug:
From January to April I made 12 pocket pillows for my 3rd grade study buddies of all their favorite things:
But the biggest things I made during chemo were 4 t-shirt quilts from November - May:
I was so scared before chemo that I wouldn't be able to to sew again like I did before but I showed cancer!!!!
Yay!
ReplyDeleteSmooch!!!
DeleteI'm so glad you're kicking butt and taking names Flo. all good thoughts for you from up here in Canada. <3
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Karen!!!
DeleteI just happened to run across one of your pink and blue quilts on pinterest and loved it. I opened the link hoping to find the pattern for it, and ran across your story. I am somewhat new to quilting and I just had my third back fusion on June 4th. I will not be able to get around very much for at least 3 months. Before my surgery I sat up a area that if I felt like it I could quilt. After reading all that you have been through and you not letting it stop you. You have really given me hope, that I can also do the things that my doctor told me I would not even think about it for a few months. It's only been a week and I my looking for a pattern to start on. If you have the pattern for what looked like denim blue and pink quilt I would be so thankful if you shared with me. I love all the things I am seeing you do. The tshirt quilts, pillows, ect.
ReplyDeletePlease keep up the great work you do.
Brenda
I would have put a picture of your pink and blue quilt on here, but didn't know how.
ReplyDeleteHi Brenda! I think I know which quilt you mean. It was denim squares paired with pink. I didn't use a pattern though I always make my rag quilts with 9" squares so I'm thinking I cut a square of denim, then I sewed 4 squares of pink or blue flannel together to make a 9" square. That was one of my earliest rag quilts so I'm sure it was full of mistakes. Hey Good Luck to you!!! Listen to your body!
