The stories behind the rag quilts and other fluffy things I make
Hi, you do such beautiful work! When making a rag quilt, can you use any fabric or does it have to be flannel for the front and back?
I have used cotton and flannel. Flannel is much softer and fluffier. You need to use fabrics that fray well. Knits such as fleece don't fray and you won't get the 'rag' effect that rag quilts have.
Some of the quilts pictured here have fleece in the middle and while they don't fray like cotton or flannel, they give a nice fluffy fullness to the raggy seams.
